Breast Cancer Awareness Camp
Contrary to popular belief, cancer is not a disease of the rich, and casteist Indian healthcare treating it as such is claiming Dalit, Bahujan and Adivasi lives. So for Dalit History Month, we wanted to raise awareness about breast cancer in the communities we work with. Women were encouraged to seek medical assistance and support if they experienced any symptoms. It was held in collaboration with CanFem in the R.K. Puram community on 24th April 2024. Around 30 women attended the session, including parents of our young learners from Malviya Nagar.
Mental Health Awareness Camp
Systemic and interpersonal discrimination causes intergenerational trauma in Dalit, Bahujan and Adivasi communities. On top of that, the topic of mental health struggles is taboo and not taken seriously. Hence, this camp aimed to raise awareness among parents about adverse childhood experiences, fostering child-centred families and emphasizing the importance of their own mental health and well-being. The session was conducted by Ipsa James who is a clinical trauma specialist. Around 25 parents of our young learners from the R.K. Puram and Malviya Nagar communities were in attendance.
