Ukkattha Annual Fest
Ukkattha Annual Fest is a cultural event organized by Project Mukti that celebrates the achievements of our young learners from our ‘Blue Blooms’ program along with their communities. Most of our learners study in government schools in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, and Gujarat with many belonging to marginalised caste communities.
‘Ukkattha’ is a Pali word for Excellence and Ukkattha Fest’s motto is -
“Remember, Reclaim and Rejoice”
- the contributions of our ancestors who fought against the caste system to give us dignity and equal rights. Participating in this fest allows our young learners to connect with their histories that have been and continue to be erased. The powerful storytelling, poetry and dance performances honour Anti-Caste movements.
By providing a platform to the learners to showcase their talents, leadership and interpersonal skills, this fest encourages them to take up space and reclaim their presence in a society, where their communities are historically and presently systemically exploited and marginalised.
Ukkattha Fest instills confidence, self-esteem, and personal agency in children from Bahujan, Dalit and Adivasi communities.
